Walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge

Yes, you can walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and it costs nothing. Sydney's tourism site lists it as a free thing to do.

From The Rocks, take the lift or stairs opposite The Glenmore Hotel on Cumberland Street. From the north side, start at Milsons Point, where there are also stairs and a lift.

The walk is one of the best free things to do in Sydney.

Pylon Lookout (BridgeMuseum): stairs, hours and tickets

The Pylon Lookout is now called BridgeMuseum. It sits inside the south-east pylon of the Bridge, with a museum, a 360° cinema and the SkyHouse lookout at the top.

There is no lift. To reach the SkyHouse, you climb more than 200 stairs, with places to stop and sit on the way. It does not suit wheelchair users or anyone who needs help on stairs.

Is the Pylon Lookout worth it?

Yes, if you like history and want a high view without paying for the climb. The walk across the Bridge is free, but the lookout adds the museum, the cinema and the view from inside the pylon.

Skip it if stairs are hard for you, since there is no lift. The ticket on GetYourGuide costs from €25, much less than a climb from €204.

Sydney Harbour Bridge tours

The best tour over the Bridge is the 5-hour bike ride from The Rocks. You must know how to ride a bike, and closed shoes are required. Children's bikes, baby seats and tag-alongs are available.

To go over the top of the arch, see our Sydney Harbour BridgeClimb page.
